I have been without some of my…

music as of late.  I won’t go into the details but basically I had to leave my cd collection with someone in the hopes that it would be forwarded to me.  (In what I hope is the very near future.)  Now as a result I have wandered through the library and grabbed random cds in hopes that I would discover some little known (at least to me) artist.  I found one.  Not a little known artist quite the contrary.  I stumbled upon Charlie Parker.  I like jazz or should I say liked with an -ed.   But if my intoduction had been to Mr.  Parker I have a feeling I would have plunged head first into a serious jazz education.  Because I love Charlie Parker.

Now I have no idea where to start my new need for knowledge.  I mean the feelings available within his music are almost palpable.  I have a feeling I will have to wander through some leafy tasteless tunes to find a musical meal as tasty and fulfilling.

Any suggestions? Appetizer, meal, dessert or after dinner drink?

Let’s dish…

I found the best site to track your calorie consumption and expenditure.  So far in just 5 weeks I have lost 10 pounds. If you know me you are aware that I didn’t have that many to lose.  So basically what I am suggesting is that it is a tool that anyone and everyone can use.  I went from 127 to 117.  This little tool has really opened my eyes to problems in what I thought was a healthy lifestyle.

I was wrong way wrong.  I was not living a life of excess but I also obviously needed some help.  So I thank you The Daily Plate for showing me my faults and assisting me in banishing them for what I hope is forever!

What on earth…

could be more boring than my life right now you ask.  Well, I’ll tell you…not much.  While that doesn’t leave me with much to share it doesn’t leave me with a great sense of sadness.  Often in life taking a moment to simply step back and realize that you don’t require big to dos or excitement is enough.  Maybe not enough to share with people.  People who don’t know you especially.  But I for one don’t feel any remorse for being at one with my simplicity and loneliness.  One can be alone and be in a room full of people.  So I am not alone I am one with myself and glad to be there for I am pretty fabulous company if I do say so myself!

So I have promised myself a daily post if for no other reason than to keep the writing skills or lack there of from becoming dusty!

So it goes….

“The most important thing I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present and future, always have existed, always will exist. The Tralfamadorians can look at all the different moments just that way we can look at a stretch of the Rocky Mountains, for instance. They can see how permanent all the moments are, and they can look at any moment that interests them. It is just an illusion we have here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone it is gone forever.”                         –

It’s better in the raw…

MMmMMmm….Ra Sushi is divine.  My latest venture for snacks.  Choosen and recommended the Crazy Monkey roll and a Ginger Martini.

“Crazy Monkey Roll –  smoked salmon, mango and cream cheese topped with avocado, red tempura bits, cashew nuts and drizzled with a mango sauce.”

“Ginger Martini – Cleanse your palate with chilled ginger brandy, Hakutsuru Sake, and peach schnapps.”

Reading a lot lately….

…so just in case you were looking to pick up something interesting why not share my thoughts on what I have recently put down.

The first book was called The Interpretation of Murder: A Novel.  The dust jacket design called to me, once I read the inside I knew it was right up my alley.  Not because I am a suspense reader persay but when I am not in the reading mood and I need to stoke those fires brain candy is perfect.  Brain candy that appears to require a brain is all the better.  A book with Freud, Jung and what appears to be the repeat pattern of a psycho sexual predator wandering the streets of Manhattan has to be either fabulous or terrible at least that was my thought process.  I was shockingly incorrect for it was just okay.  There were moments of really good can’t put down and then moments of ugggh you’re kidding me right.  The ending was full of twists and turns but not of the wow variety more of the huh seriously come on variety.  Like suspense/mystery at least check it out I can’t promise you will love it but I can’t promise you won’t.

Next on the list was the most recently released novel by Christopher Moore , one of my favorite comedic writers.  The title elicits a snicker or two by itself  … You Suck: A Love Story.  This is not my favorite book by Christopher Moore but it was a quick and entertaining look at the tragic and tragically funny romance between two recent vampire recruits.   Replete with amusing characters including a blue (yes you read that correct blue) hooker from Vegas, a homless man and his rather large sweater wearing cat, not to mention the most entertaining of all charachters for methe couples minion Abby Normal.  It was one of those finish quick…enjoy the entire time…but not necessarily call up your friends begging them to pick up this book or they will be missing out on something so splendid they could never forgive themselves.  If you are looking for something funny to read as escape from your everyday, pick it up.

Pretty:Darn:Swell

Having moved recently I am trying to send more snail mail.  Sometimes things just need that I travelled thousands of miles to be in your hands feel.   I was perusing the web for some interesting note cards and found this website:  Pretty:Darn:Swell  It isn’t necessarily a fantastic stationary store it’s a great source for inexpensive prints by artists you may ordinarily never stumble upon.  The bonus is that when an artist submits a piece to be sold through this site they also select a charity from which $5 of the $20 you just spent is given to.  Cool new art for your wall and a donation and it costs so little.  Check it out!  This is the piece I have my eye on….  Stacks – Greg Mamczak – 5″ x 7″

Are you kidding me?

I’m a member of the site 43things.com.  One of it’s sister sites is called listsofbests.com.  I’ve signed up for 8 lists I think.  They are lists of movies, books, music etc.  They are compiled based on awards received, definitive lists (the best of), or even someone’s personal preferences. One of the lists I am trying to complete is the IMDB’s 250 best movies of all time based on their readers.  Dr. Strangelove is one of them so of course when I saw it at the library I had to get it. It’s a Kubrick film so I figure if nothing else there would be something intriguing about the way it was filmed. No such luck. I just didn’t like it. I can’t name a reason or pin point that thing which is the tipping point pushing it over into the yawn category.  But it definitely dwells there.  Suffice it to say I wouldn’t recommend it but to each is own.  However my personal opinion is…are you kidding me?
